OUR LIBRARY

New library

The cooperation project “Library Marathon 2021” for the children of the Sonnenstraßenschule in Düsseldorf-Oberbilk has started

"Whoever takes part wins, whether as a school child or as a sponsor!"  With this motto, headmaster Kornelius Knettel (GGS Sonnenstrasse),  Heinz Mölder (Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Children's Foundation "Reading Educates") and City Director Burkhard Hintzsche (State Capital Düsseldorf),  the library marathon 2021 for the 290 girls and boys of the community elementary school. With the active support of four teachers, a concept was developed that can make all children happy and proud with a sponsored run in the second quarter of 2021.

“If dreams are to come true, every now and then you need adults who are willing to get involved. This applies to small and large projects, including the establishment of a new, larger library room, "says Kornelius Knettel,  Heinz Mölder and Burkhard Hintzsche.

The move to a new room planned for summer 2021, the expansion of the book inventory and the purchase of new media will cost around 42,000 euros one-time.

This amount is supposed to  collected by March 31, 2021.

In addition to its educational mission, the Sonnenstraßenschule has placed a self-chosen focus on sport and exercise. So it was obvious to start the fundraising campaign a year before the planned Olympic Games in Tokyo with a running campaign over the marathon distance of 42.195 kilometers  associate.

Every school child (currently 290 girls and boys) receives  the opportunity to run a 422-meter lap in the second quarter of 2021. The elapsed time and the distance play in the spirit of the Olympic idea of Pierre de Coubertin "The most important thing about the Olympic Games is not to win, but to be part of it!"  not matter. Every individual achievement is rewarded, regardless of whether a child has run 100, 422 or even 844 meters or more.  In the finish area, every girl and boy receives a lovingly from the agency LOCKSTOFF Design, Meerbusch,  designed running medal. So should the children  to be made proud and happy and to remember for a long time that by participating in their first marathon they contributed to the financing of the new library.

What makes running sponsors winners?  As with every Olympic competition, there is a third, a second and a first place. You can become a GOLD sponsor with a donation of 4,219.50 euros. GOLD sponsors therefore each finance ten percent of the running distance for the children. You can become a SILVER sponsor with a donation from 421.95 euros and a BRONZE donor from 42.20 euros.

To date, almost 45 percent of the marathon route has been financed.

All GOLD and SILVER sponsors receive a certificate as a thank you and can look forward to being named on a plaque of honor in the new library.

The donation account with the IBAN DE79 3005 0110 1007 6888 21

is managed by the Stadtsparkasse Düsseldorf.

Our team

At the beginning of the first half of the school year, the pupils have chosen their working groups. We, the “Reading Club” project manager, the reading sponsors, would like to take this opportunity to introduce ourselves to everyone who is interested. Our aim is to playfully arouse children's interest in and enjoyment of reading and the language, while imparting basic knowledge of communication to them. We use different instruments for this. The spectrum ranges from reading, creative games and handicrafts with language relevance, from developing and telling stories to the use of digital media, such as the iPad with child-friendly apps.
